Rt. Rev. Peter Kago Ng’ang’a is the EMC Missionary Bishop

Came to this country in August of 1999 to attend Episcopal Seminary of Southwest at Austin and be ordained for ministry, after leaving behind my wife Anna and our three young daughters Grace 9, Phyllis 7 and Jessica 5 years old back in Kenya. It was a difficult decision and many asked why I would do that. I had been in law practice for 18 years with no formal ministry experience, but my passionate  for what I knew was God’s calling was noticed by my bishop, the late Archbishop of Kenya David M.. Gitari who granted me permission, My dad (is now 92) is a retired Anglican Priest and mom (is now 90) were known in the Church and the Archbishop knew us very well. I graduated in 2001 and my parents attended the graduation when I was also ordained a Deacon by my bishop from Kenya at that time.

Have held various ministry opportunities in and around Austin, Texas which have allowed me to work for the State of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Office of Legal Services at Austin, now for over 12 years. Being a bi-vocational Priest has allowed me to do things in ministry that I felt God called me into such as serving the Homeless community in Austin and the non English speaking Immigrant refugees from Africa for example and also be supportive of my family. In 2012 Bishop Millsaps asked me to lead the EMC Mission team and we have conducted two very successful Dental and Medical camps in Kenya in 2019 and 2020 and hope for more mission trips in the future.

Two most exciting things that happened to us as a family in the last two years are in 2019 we all became US citizens, after 20 years waiting and in June of 2020 I was consecrated Missionary Bishop of The Episcopal Missionary Church (USA). It is very exciting times we live in and even more for the opportunity to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ during these exceptional times here in the US and at other places where we go for missions as God opens doors, is also very exciting indeed.
